New for 2013!
Panama, 1923. The United States, which has
ridden the crest of victories in the Spanish-American War and World War I to
become a new world power, has conquered tropical diseases and the jungle to
fulfill the 500-year dream of constructing a canal across the Isthmus of
Panama. But in its opportunistic
rise to world prominence, it has alienated friends and offended other
countries.
Smarting over some of the ways America has used is new clout, Colombia and Japan commence
secret negotiations to punish the United States for what they see as its callous
treatment of them. As they
implement their plans for revenge, U. S. Army Major Dwight Eisenhower faces a
dark personal challenge and becomes executive officer to Fox Conner, commander
of the U. S. 20th Infantry Brigade in Panama.
Meanwhile, Theodore Roosevelt returns to Panama to hunt one of the wildest places in the
world, the impenetrable Darien jungle, and to see his greatest achievement, the
Panama Canal, completed. Plans are
quickly changed however, and Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Conner, and many other
Americans find their lives turned upside down when they are called upon to
defend one of America’s greatest triumphs, the Panama Canal.
